Writer and artist Mark Siegel spent years creating the story, while also serving as publisher of First Second Books. We went behind the scenes with Mark to see what led to the creation of this starkly beautiful mermaid tale.

Storytellers Eugene Byrne and Simon Gurr are two of the latest to tell Darwin’s life story, this time in the form of a graphic novel. In early January, bestselling and award-winning author Jenni Holm (who creates the phenomenally fun Babymouse series along with her brother Matt) joined the Board of Directors of the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. Holm will help promote CBLDF and its main issues, particularly when it comes to youth and education. We talked with her about what she’ll be doing for the organization.
