I'm incredibly excited that I'm going to be spending the upcoming weekend in Miami for the Miami Book Fair, but if I were staying in New York, I'd be headed out to Brooklyn this weekend for the powerHouse Arena's Hurricane Sandy Relief Fundraiser. On Saturday, November 17, from 12–9 p.m., and for only $10, guests will be able to hang out with and attend readings from such illustrious creators as Adrian Tomine, Leanne Shapton, Jennifer Egan, Jonathan Franzen, Paul Auster, Joseph O'Neill, Rick Moody, Pete Hamill, Fiona Robinson, John Bemelmans Marciano, Saïd Sayrafiezadeh, Téa Obreht, Teju Cole, Ayad Akhtar, Cecily von Ziegesar, and Sarah Vowell. I love this bookstore, and any opportunity to help it out is well worth it.
