The Beat Goes On

June is always a hectic time of year, and this year it’s even more so as my younger son is wrapping up middle school and moving on to high school. His schedule came in the mail the other day, and he reminded me that he no longer wanted to do Band for next year (I think carrying the bass drum for two miles in the town parade on Memorial Day sealed that fate), which was two periods of electives. He needed two replacement classes, so I shot a note off to his guidance counselor to see what she could do. She replied that she was putting him in his first choice: Literature through Graphic Novel. He’s excited about this class and I am thrilled.

Coincidentally, this month we have an Op-Ed running from Leigh Brodsky, who teaches the class, which takes my world a bit full circle this morning. I love when my work and personal lives collide like that.

It’s all pretty cool, and I am looking forward to hearing what he has to say about the curriculum. Maybe I can even get him to do some writing for us about it here.
