Better Than Klordny

I’ve drifted in and out of watching Smallville, but anytime I return to watching the show, I’m always pleasantly surprised. The show seems to walk a weird and very fine line of trying to forge its own path while also cleaving somewhat to “official” Superman continuity (maybe the films’ continuity more than the comic books’). I’ve definitely enjoyed watching the series incorporate some of DC’s other heroes, like Green Arrow, Aquaman, and Black Canary. The show seems rather low-budget for the effects its content requires, but its heart is in the right place, so it’s hard to find fault in it, really.

And so, comic-book geek that I am, I am already a little giddy with excitement for Thursday, January 15. That’s when Smallville will be debuting its version of The Legion of Super-Heroes, which is only the greatest superhero team ever in the history of comics. Yeah, I said it. No other team even comes close. (The first comic I ever bought featured the LSH; my addiction has not waned in the intervening years.) Sure, I’m a little biased toward my first love, but I still think the idea of 31st-century (or 30th-century, if you’re old-school) teens banding together offers the perfect blendship of sci-fi, fantasy, and superheroics.

It was only a matter of time before the LSH came to Smallville, and now that it’s here, I’m excited. You can whet your appetite for the show by watching a preview here.

Now, let’s all hope it features the right Legion.

I thought they pulled it off well, though Garth was a little whiney. Liked the costumes, liked the references, though I'll still probably pronouce Garth's homeworld with a short "i".

And I had a big smile at "Long Live the Legion!"
