While many of these would not appear on my own top-ten list, I do feel this selection offers a good scope and breadth for the genre.
Nice list. Quite solid. As you can see by the comments, there will always be a percentage who disagree with anyone's list 'just because'. So, for those who check in anonymously with snarky comments: step up and give an honestly decent reply. Counter with your own Top Ten. Otherwise, your opinions simply dont matter.
Nice selection but I would have included Chris Ware's 'Jimmy Corrigan' in my humble opinion the best graphic novel ever...
so this is the core 10? No wonder that comicbook sales are declining all over the world. There are some nice things in this list. (Maus, asterios) but come on,
persepolis? Boring and ugly. It has some nice pieces in it, but the larger part is boring stuff, but hey, it is hip to like it because someone claimed it is art, so like it.
Blankets?mmm, interesting start, nice middlepart and then what? ... it never transcends the stage of a good anekdote. Good drawings, it gripped me from the start, but it faded out at the end.
And bone is nice entertainment, but to put it in the list of the core 10? That is gravely exaggerated.
And though I am a big fan of Gaiman, there are too much weak passages in it to claim it as brilliant. It is brilliant for the most part, but you have to weed through the weak stuff ... and the downright ugly drawings from time to time.
But these are just my opinions, who cares ;o)
So, you're anonymous for a reason, then.
Ugh, Sandman. How embarassing.
