This second volume of Durarara!! not only follows our friend Mikado Ryuugamine, but multiple other characters as well. More insight is given in Celty’s situation, including her own partial account of how she became a Dullahan. She allows us to look into her past life, what she originally did, but we never get to see what her head and face looked like. That, however, is nonetheless revealed in this volume, so take heed.

On Mikado’s end, he is compelled to volunteer as one of the two representatives for his class, alongside Anri Sonohara, whom I think Mikado has taken a liking to, though he doesn’t show it very well. He even comes upon her on the street as she’s being bullied. Initially intending to ignore it, he quickly changes his mind, thanks to a helpful shove from Izaya Orihara, our delightfully crazed friend who has more attitudes than Rich Little and changes them at the drop of a hat. We also meet another interesting youth, a man Mikado was told to never get involved with, Shizuo Heiwajima. He is incredibly strong, and more volatile than the Incredible Hulk, but that’s just my opinion.

We later find out whatever became of Celty’s head --- a pharmaceutical company was keeping it for study and conducting tests on it. Apparently, however, due to the obsessions of the younger brother of one of the company’s top scientists, the head was surgically attached to a body and given life. We even find out the identity of the said body, as it’s being chased by Celty in the middle of a bid to reclaim what it rightfully hers.

The creators of this manga started off strong, and they are still going strong. The same characters now have some new things to contend with, especially that super powered bartender, Shizuo! The saying goes, “the more the merrier,” and things are getting more fun every time I pick up these books.
