Two Authors, One Great Bookstore, and GNR
This Monday night, Brooklyn residents (and anyone else in the vicinity) will get a chance to meet not one but two of the hottest graphic novel creators right now, and it's at an event I'm proud to be moderating! Both David Small (the creator of Stitches) and Josh Neufeld (A.D.: New Orleans After the Deluge) will be appearing at 7:00 p.m. at Powerhouse Books (as I mentioned, that's in Brooklyn, and it's this coming Monday, the 28th). Stitches will be making its debut at the top of the New York Times Graphic Novel Bestseller List this week, so it's the perfect time to talk to David Small about it. I've recently had the pleasure of interviewing both of these writers, and I'm looking forward to talking to both of them again. After the talk with the authors, audience members will have a chance to get their books autographed, too. If you're near Brooklyn on Monday, please come by and check it out!

I love that both of these authors were at the same event. I have recently known a number of people that have tried GN's for the first time with Stitches, and they have loved it, partially because of the illustrators focus he brings to the work. It is easy to follow and you don't have to be a comic pro to understand the format and flow of the panels. Also it is a very compelling story. I have then been recommending they try A.D. because I think it also is a great example of a GN for a newbie because it simply tells a story without trying to be overly technical or anything. It just uses the form very well and tells an equally compelling, although vastly different story. These books just fit very well together, and are both great works for someone not familiar with comics to cut their teeth on.
