Weekend movie reports are coming in and it looks as though Watchmen is estimated to have made $55.7 million this weekend. So is it a hit? Debates are raging about that just as wildly as they are over the merits of the movie. The film still has a ways to go to recoup its reported $150 million budget, but that shouldn't be too much trouble. Beyond that? That's anyone's guess, but when you're talking about Watchmen, nothing is certain.

Personally, I think debating the Watchmen movie is one of the most fun things for fans to come along in ages. Did you find the music intrusive? Was it better without the squid? Were the filmmakers faithful enough? Were they too faithful? For me, it's fun to discuss it with friends, and it's just one more sign of how much we all love Watchmen. As Carol Fitzgerald said to me after we saw the movie together, "It's the most interesting movie out right now. Nothing else is taking the kind of chances it is." That's true.
